Introduction

When playing Splatoon, the main part of the game that most people play is Turf war. Turf war is a mode where your goal is to paint as much of the available turf, while fighting against the other team for territory. To be able to truly thrive in this mode, you must learn how to properly use the tools available to you.

Weapon Types

In Splatoon there are 11 different weapon types in Splatoon 3.

Each weapon type they each have a unique method both in how they ink the ground, but also in how they damage the enemy team, and how much damage each deals.

Gear Types

There are three main types of gear that you can wear to boost your abilities.

Each piece of gear holds one main ability and three sub abilities. Each ability boosts their given attribute by a given number of AP, or ability points. A main ability gives 10 points, while a sub gives 3 AP. There are some abilities that are specific to gear that cannot be added manually, and can only be found on specific brands of gear.

These abilities are: If Ability-Slot=Main, Then Increase AP in Swim-Speed 10, Else, Increase AP in Swim-Speed 3AP
Ability Chunks

Ability Chunks is the method in which players can add abilities to their gear to aid them in battle. Ability chunks can be obtained through multiple ways, the main two being through Grizco shifts and through the shell-out machine. There are 14 abilities that can be added through chunks

Splatfest

Splatfest changes both how much experience you gain, but also how the turf war games work. During splatfests, you pick a team based on that fest’s specific theme, as an example of a past theme, “Which is most important to you? Past vs Present vs Future” in which team Past won. During a splatfest, you’ll battle for that team throughout the fest, and gain more experience as you do, along with have a chance for X10 and X100 battles, which can net you even more points.

If Splatfest=active, Increase Exp Gain, +60 win, +20 loss Else, Exp gain +600 win, +300 loss
Shops

Shops are the main places to get new gear and weapons.

There are 5 shops in Splatoon 3,

Hotlantis does not affect turf war stats, but items used to decorate your Turf Lobby Locker can be purchased here.

Online vs Private

Online battles are the only way to earn experience points during turf war. Private battles do not give any experience points.

If battle=Private, disable exp-gain, else, exp-gain active.
Ranked Mode

Ranked mode is a more difficult mode to play, as with each win your rank goes higher and each loss your rank lowers. With each match, the amount of experience is also increased depending on your rank. at the end of each season, the top ranked players are announced.

If result=win, add win-bonus to exp, increase rank.else, lower rank
Shell-Out Machine

The shell-out machine is a gatchapon machine that gives randomized rewards for each play. Rewards can range from decorative items for the player’s locker and their profile, but also Ability Chunks and Food tickets that can be used to further boost experience and coins earned from playing Turf War.
